Ukraine strongly condemns attack on Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran – MFA’s spokesperson

KYIV. Jan 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine strongly condemns the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran on January 27, as a result of which one person was killed and several others were injured, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleh Nikolenko said.

“Ukraine strongly condemns today’s attack on the embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran, which resulted in one death and left several security personnel injured. We offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones of the victim, and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded,” Nikolenko said on Twitter.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry earlier reported that an armed attack was carried out on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran at around 08:30 (Baku time) on January 27. Armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, he killed the head of the diplomatic mission’s security service. When repelling an armed attack, two more embassy security officers were injured, their condition is satisfactory.

According to Iranian media, the criminal was a man in his 50s. According to preliminary data, he drove up to the administrative building of the embassy in a car with two minor children: a 14-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. He entered the embassy building and opened fire right at the entrance to the building.

The head of the Tehran police announced the arrest of the perpetrator of an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran.
