Ukraine sows winter crops on area of 17% of forecast
KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of September 20, Ukrainian agricultural producers sowed the main winter crops on an area of 1.32 million hectares (17% of the forecast of 7.84 million hectares), 0.961 million hectares were sown over the past week, Ministry of Agrarian Food Policy reported on the site on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the following crops were sown: wheat on 1.22 million hectares (18% of the planned area), barley on 51,300 hectares (5%), and rye on 48,900 hectares (30%).
The ministry said that 880,600 hectares were sown with winter rape as of the indicated date (86% of the forecast). The sowing of this crop was fully completed by the agrarians of 10 regions: Vinnytsia, Volyn, Poltava, Sumy, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Chernivtsi.
