Ukraine sows winter crops on area equaling 44% of forecast – Agriculture ministry

KYIV. Oct 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – As of October 4, Ukrainian agricultural producers sowed the main winter crops on an area of 3.48 million hectares (44% of the forecast of 7.84 million hectares), the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said on its website on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, in particular, wheat had been sown on 3.07 million hectares (46% of the planned 6.67 million hectares), barley on 252,200 hectares (25% of 1.02 million hectares), and rye on 105,700 hectares (66% of 160,600 hectares).

The ministry said that as of the indicated date, 987,800 hectares were also sown with winter rapeseeds (96% of the projected 1.03 million hectares). The sowing of this crop was fully completed by the agrarians of 16 regions.

As reported with reference to the State Statistics Service, the sown area of winter cereals for the harvest of 2021 amounted to 7.97 million hectares, which is 4.9% more than the sown area for the harvest of 2020. Among grain crops, 6.71 million hectares were sown with winter wheat, 1.08 million hectares with winter barley, and 166.8 thousand hectares with rye. In addition, the area under winter rapeseeds for the harvest in 2021 amounted to 1.01 million hectares.
