Ukraine requested emergency assistance from Slovakia's power system due to fire at unit 3 of Burshtyn TPP

KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On August 18, Ukraine activated emergency assistance from the power system of Slovakia due to the fire of the oil tank and the shutdown of unit No. 3 of Burshtyn TPP, NPC Ukrenergo has reported.

According to the Ukrainian transmission system operator, the provision of emergency assistance due to a power shortage in the Burshtyn TPP Island lasted two hours. Its total value was 0.2 million kWh.

As reported, the conclusion of agreements on emergency mutual assistance between adjacent transmission system operators (TSOs) is stipulated in the ENTSO-E general rules.

As reported, on the evening of August 18, a fire occurred in the oil tank of the boiler and turbine shop of power unit No. 3 of Burshtyn TPP (DTEK Zakhidenergo), which was extinguished at 18:15, no casualties were reported.

NPC Ukrenergo and the Slovak operator SEPS in March 2021 signed an agreement on the supply of electricity within the framework of emergency mutual assistance. The emergency assistance capacity is 100 MW with the possibility of increasing to 150 MW by mutual agreement of the parties, the capacity for emergency assistance is not reserved in advance.

In January-July 2021, emergency supplies from Slovakia amounted to 0.2 million kWh, from Belarus – 9.7 million kWh, to Belarus – 0.4 million kWh, and to Poland – 8.5 million kWh.
