Ukraine reduces steel output by 93.9%, ranking 38th in Worldsteel rating, in Dec 2022

KYIV. Feb 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in December last year reduced steel production by 16.4 times, or by 93.9%, compared to the same period in 2021, to 106,000 tonnes, ranking 38th in the rating of 64 countries – the world’s main manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

According to the Worldsteel data, in December 2022, a decrease in steel production was recorded against December 2021 in most countries of the top ten, except for India and Iran.

The top ten steel producing countries in December are as follows: China (77.890 million tonnes, a decrease of 9.8% compared to December 2021), India (10.569 million tonnes, an increase of 0.8%), Japan (6.899 million tonnes, “minus” 13.1%), the United States (6.510 million tonnes, less by 8.3%), Russia (5.5 million tonnes, “minus” 11.3%), South Korea (5.249 million tonnes, “minus” 11.6%), Germany (2.693 million tonnes, minus 14.6%), Iran (2.650 million tonnes, an increase of 3.3%), Turkey (2.659 million tonnes, a decrease of 20%), and Brazil (2.505 million tonnes, “minus” 5.2%).

In December, Ukraine is in the 38th position with 106,000 tonnes of steel (less by 93.9% from December 2021). At the same time, in November 2022, the country produced 313,000 tonnes of steel, in October – 318,000 tonnes of steel, in September – 340,000 tonnes, in August – 366,000 tonnes of steel, in July – 281,000 tonnes of steel, in June – 295,000 tonnes, in May – 308,000 tonnes, in April – 281,000 tonnes, in March – 200,000 tonnes, in February – 1.374 million tonnes, in January – 1.851 million tonnes.

In general, in December 2022, steel production in the world decreased by 10.8% compared to the same period in 2021, to 140.695 million tonnes.

According to the results of 12 months of 2022, Ukraine is in the 23rd place with the production of 6.263 million tonnes of steel (minus 70.7%).
