Ukraine receives third ship as part of grain initiative since war start

KYIV. Aug 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The vessel Brave Commander under the flag of Liberia, chartered by the United Nations World Food Programme to transport food to Ethiopia, arrived at the port of Pivdenny on Friday as part of the Istanbul Grain Initiative and became the third vessel to call at the Ukrainian port since the beginning of the war, the Ministry of Infrastructure reported.

"The ship Brave Commander will start loading 23,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain tomorrow, which will be sent to the people of Ethiopia. Moreover, we are working with the UN World Food Programme to ensure that the volume of food transportation only grows," Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov is quoted in the release.

According to him, from the beginning of the grain initiative discussion, Ukraine understood its responsibility to the socially unprotected population of African, Asian and Latin American countries, which has traditionally been one of the key consumers of Ukrainian agricultural products.

"I am grateful to our partners from the UN for their cooperation. We plan to load the ship and send it to consumers as soon as possible. We are working to ensure that the unblocked ports become a guarantee of stabilization of the humanitarian situation in the world," Kubrakov said.
