Ukraine receives over $23 bln in intl financial aid since war start – Shmyhal
KYIV. Nov 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal says that since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine has received more than $23 billion in international financial assistance.
"Ukraine feels the reliable support of the world in our struggle for freedom and independence. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, we have received more than $23 billion in international financial assistance. Of these, $4.8 billion from the European Union and $8.5 billion from the United States," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Friday.
According to him, these funds finance critical budget expenditures, in particular, payments to state employees, pensioners, IDPs, and recipients of subsidies, as well as support the viability of communities.
"In the coming year, the support of partner countries and international financial institutions will be extremely important for us," he stressed.
According to the prime minister, Ukraine is counting on a large EU financial assistance package in the amount of EUR 18 billion in 2023, which will cover the budget deficit for the necessary non-defense spending, as well as on the positive decision of the U.S. Congress to allocate $37.7 billion.
"The third component of successful budget financing will be a new program of cooperation with the IMF. We are working to ensure that it opens next year," Shmyhal added.
