Ukraine receives first of four promised by Germany Iris-T air defense systems –media
KYIV. Oct 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has received the first of four Iris-T air defense systems promised by Germany. The transfer took place in the area of the Polish-Ukrainian border, according to the publication Spiegel.
Thus, the media notes, the federal government is fulfilling the promise made by Chancellor Olaf Scholz in early June. Also earlier, Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht reported that the delivery would be made ahead of schedule. Previously, it was expected that the first transfer would take place in November.
According to the German government, the Iris-T system is the most modern German air defense system. The ground-based complex is primarily designed to protect the civilian population by repelling air attacks.
