Ukraine receives another mobile primary healthcare unit from German NGOs

KYIV. Feb 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Non-governmental organizations from Germany handed over a mobile primary healthcare unit to Ukraine, the German embassy has reported.

"Today, February 5, at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the German CADUS handed over a mobile primary healthcare unit to the partner organization BASE UA in Kyiv in the presence of German Ambassador Anka Feldhusen and Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko," the embassy said.

Also, the Minister of Health of Ukraine and the Ambassador of Germany discussed further German-Ukrainian cooperation, according to the report.

"The joint work of the German NGOs CADUS and Leave No One Behind and their German volunteers with Ukrainian NGOs, hospitals and volunteers in strengthening the healthcare system in Ukraine is one of the testimonies of how important interpersonal ties between Germany and Ukraine are," the Ambassador of Germany said.

She also assured of the sincerity of the Germans in their desire to help Ukraine: "The Germans are sincerely making efforts to help Ukraine and believe in its victory. Conducting trainings, evacuating people from the front-line regions, purchasing medical equipment and ambulance vehicles is what saves lives and gives confidence that we will get through these difficult times together. Therefore, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports such projects, in particular, by providing CADUS with EUR 3.5 million," Feldhusen said.

"Thanks to the transfer of such mobile offices to the Ukrainian healthcare system, primary medical care becomes available for Ukrainians who find themselves in close proximity to the war zone. The destruction of the medical infrastructure has become another challenge of the full-scale war, which international partners are helping Ukraine overcome. I am sincerely grateful to both the German government and non-governmental organizations that are making efforts to ensure the provision of medical care in a difficult period for our country," Liashko said, whose words are quoted in the press release.

After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the German organization CADUS is constantly working in Ukraine. In collaboration with partners from BASE UA and the Leave No One Behind Ukraine Info Hub, CADUS is helping with patient transportation, providing medical and safety training for local volunteers, and working to expand the training concept to various target groups in Ukraine.

With the financial support of the German Foreign Ministry, CADUS has already donated 22 ambulances to Ukrainian organizations and hospitals, converted a bus into a mobile intensive care unit (M.I.C.U.), and has supported and continues to support partners with medical equipment and medical supplies.
