Ukraine plans to start full-scale production of Bayraktar UAVs – Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey

KYIV. Nov 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine is planning to launch full-scale production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) Bayraktar, which may begin in the near future, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar has said.

In his interview to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFERL), he noted that production facilities where Bayraktar UAVs are produced in Turkey are already full, therefore the Turkish side is interested in opening a new plant for production of unmanned aerial vehicles.

"Bayraktar is now interested in many countries and there are already preliminary contracts with some European states […] And the production facilities in Turkey, it seems to me, are quite full. Therefore, additional full-cycle production facilities are also in the interest of the Turkish side, in order to develop new markets and jointly conduct tests, and later, possibly, train some foreign colleagues to master this technology and jointly form the defense sector," the diplomat said.

He said that soon a center for the development and repair of Bayraktar drones will appear in Ukraine, as well as a training center, the creation of which is stipulated by a memorandum signed between the Turkish drone manufacturer and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

"This is a question, perhaps, for months, not years. And work is already underway in order to allocate an appropriate land plot in order to begin substantive work on the construction of this storage and repair center. And also a parallel track is the work on the creation of production facilities and production of Bayraktar in Ukraine. I will not say a specific time frame, so as not to create an erroneous impression for our viewers or listeners, but in fact the works are proceeding at a rather fast pace and these are definitely not years, but months," Bodnar said.

He added that Kyiv and Ankara are building their relationship on the basis of strategic interest and mutual technological compatibility.

As reported, on October 26, the Armed Forces of Ukraine first used the Bayraktar combat reconnaissance and strike unmanned system, purchased from Turkey, in the area of the Joint Forces operation in Donbas on the order of Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Valeriy Zaluzhny.
