Ukraine once again invites Pope Francis to visit Kyiv – MFA
KYIV. May 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine once again renews its invitation to Pope Francis to visit Kyiv, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleh Nikolenko said.
"The Roman Pontiff stated that Moscow has ignored all the calls of the Vatican to end the war. Ukraine reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and once again renews the invitation to the Holy Father to visit Kyiv. We believe that good will certainly overcome evil. We call on the Holy Father to continue to pray for the Ukrainians and apply efforts for peace in Ukraine," Nikolenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
He noted that the Foreign Ministry carefully read the interview of Pope Francis for the Italian Corriere Della Sera and appreciate that Ukraine remains in the center of his attention.
"We are grateful for the efforts of the Pope of Rome to establish a just peace and stop the war, which was in no way provoked by Ukraine, NATO or any other third party. It has now become absolutely clear to the Pontiff and to the whole world that neither Russia nor Putin personally determined to stop the bloodshed on Ukrainian soil," the speaker said.
Earlier, Pope Francis said that he was ready to visit Moscow and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but "for the time being he would not go to Kyiv."
