Ukraine 'makes pass' to Alliance by application to join NATO – Zelensky

KYIV. Oct 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – With its application to join NATO, Ukraine "makes a pass" to the Alliance, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said, speaking on Thursday at Australia’s think tank, the Lowy Institute.

"There is no need to be afraid of anyone. And vice versa – it is necessary to build security guarantees for the whole world, so that the autocratic regime does not have an idea that you can seize peoples and lands," he said.

Without Ukraine, he said, "NATO is not such a strong alliance, especially on the European continent. For a fortress in the east, this is very important. We make a pass to NATO. At a time when not only Ukraine must demonstrate its strength to Russia, but also when the allies, the alliance can demonstrate that they are not afraid of the Russian Federation."

"This is a question for NATO. But I know that everyone understands that security guarantees are needed, we will go through this path, and what it will be depends not only on Ukraine," Zelensky said.
