Ukraine loses UAH 55-60 mln daily due to blocked Yahodyn checkpoint
KYIV. Sept 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine loses UAH 55-60 million daily due to a strike of Polish carriers at the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint, which is the largest automobile crossing, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov has said at a press conference on Thursday.
"At the moment, the daily shortfalls in the budget amount to UAH 55-60 million, and this is only because of the blocked Yahodyn checkpoint," he said.
Kubrakov expressed hope that the next meeting of the prime ministers of Ukraine and Poland would influence the settlement of the situation at the checkpoint. However, as the minister noted, after the meeting of the prime ministers, it would take at least two weeks to normalize the work of the Yahodyn checkpoint.
As reported, Polish truck drivers on September 5 blocked the road on the Polish side of the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint and went on a strike demanding better work of the Polish phytosanitary and veterinary control. As a result, on that day, the queue at the border with Poland in front of the Yahodyn checkpoint to Poland was 2,650 trucks, while to Ukraine – 300 trucks.
According to Kubrakov, the Ukrainian side has repeatedly offered the Polish side a simple solution at closed, open, joint and bilateral meetings: to increase the number of employees of phytosanitary and veterinary services, to provide Ukrainian experts who would help Polish colleagues, or to remove this control beyond the checkpoints inland.
