Ukraine joins Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Program

KYIV. Oct 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell have signed an Agreement on Ukraine’s participation in the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Program and a complementary Euratom Research and Training Programme.

The document was signed in the framework of the 23rd Ukraine-EU summit in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The signing of the document will provide a legal basis for cooperation in scientific and scientific-technical spheres and create preconditions necessary to accelerate Ukraine’s development as an influential European state by expanding international scientific and technological cooperation, as well as ensure the necessary steps for our country’s integration into the European Research Area, the presidential press service said.

"The associated status of Ukraine in these programs will promote the involvement of domestic subjects of scientific, scientific-technical and economic activities in the largest program of the European Union for research and innovation, as well as attract support under this program," the message reads.

It specifies that the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Program for 2021-2027 is the EU’s program for financing science and innovation with a total budget of over EUR 95.5 billion.

"The Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Program and the Euratom Research and Training Program (2021-2025) is complementary to Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Program and is aimed at implementing promising research and innovative projects in the field of nuclear energy, thermonuclear fusion and nuclear fission," the President’s Office says.
