Ukraine intends to join EU Single Market Programme valued at EUR 4.2 bln – Ministry of Economy

KYIV. Jan 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In the near future, a Ukrainian delegation plans to hold talks with the European Commission on concluding an agreement on Ukraine’s participation in the EU Single Market Programme.

"The EU Single Market Programme is financial support package designed to last for seven years (from 2021 to 2027). Ukraine’s accession to this program would allow us to strengthen cooperation with the EU, which is especially important given the European integration processes and Ukraine’s EU candidate status," First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko said.

According to the ministry, this programme should facilitate easier access to markets, as well as help develop the business environment, including mentoring schemes. Among other things, it is expected to participate in the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) and joint cluster initiatives.

Some 24% of the total program budget, approximately EUR 1 billion, will be sent to strengthening the competitiveness and resilience of SMEs, which will ensure the provision of various forms of business support, and 13%, or EUR 546 million, will be sent to the creation and dissemination of high-quality European statistics. The latter will allow Ukraine to participate in an expanded partnership focused on development of new European statistics using many data sources, advanced data analysis methods, smart systems, and digital technologies.
