Ukraine insists on excluding Rosatom from all intergovernmental agreements – Yermak

KYIV. Feb 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine insists on the exclusion of the Russian state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom from all intergovernmental agreements with other countries and organizations, including the UN Global Compact, head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak has said.

According to him, the imposition of sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry was laid down in November 2022 by the document of the Yermak-McFaul international group on sanctions against Russia.

So, he noted, thanks to the constant work with partners, the European Parliament voted for the rejection of Russian uranium fuel.

"Next, there should be sanctions against Rosatom. Ukraine have imposed them," Yermak wrote on Telegram.

In particular, according to him, it is necessary to exclude Rosatom from all intergovernmental agreements and agreements on research projects, including from the UN Global Compact, and to freeze any new contracts with the Russian nuclear corporation for uranium enrichment or processing services.

Yermak also insists on the need to freeze any new Rosatom contracts for the construction of nuclear power plants, to establish control over its investments in Western countries for national security reasons, and also to set a goal to reduce dependence on Rosatom nuclear operators.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry.
