Ukraine increases scrap procurement by 45%, exports by 20 times in Jan-Aug
KYIV. Sept 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In January-August of this year, enterprises engaged in operations with ferrous scrap increased the procurement of scrap metal by 44.8% compared to the same period last year, to 2.762 million tonnes.
As reported in the recent information of the Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet), scrap metal exports for the specified period amounted to 410,500 tonnes, which is 19.9 times more compared to the same period in 2020 (some 20,600 tonnes).
At the same time, scrap imports in January-August amounted to 15,900 tonnes, which is 31.7% more than in January-August 2020 (some 12,100 tonnes).
Over the eight months of 2021, the supply of scrap to country’s metallurgical enterprises increased by 23.6% compared to the same period last year, to 2.220 million tonnes. The level of scrap metal stocks at metallurgical enterprises was estimated at 130,000-135,000 tonnes as of September 1, 2021.
