Ukraine increases scrap metal exports by 20 times in kind, by 30 times in monetary terms

KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian enterprises in January-August this year increased exports of ferrous metal scrap by 19.93 times compared to the same period last year, to 410,432 tonnes, including 75,843 tonnes of scrap exported in August.

According to statistics released by the State Customs Service on Wednesday, in monetary terms, exports of scrap metal increased 29.5 times, to $157.145 million.

At the same time, in January-August of this year, the country increased imports of scrap metal in quantity terms by 31.7%, to 15,886 tonnes. In monetary terms, imports of scrap increased 2.1 times, to $28.942 million.

In January-August of this year, scrap metal was mainly imported from Turkey (60.90% of supplies in monetary terms), the Russian Federation (33.07%) and Poland (1.75%); and exported – to Turkey (86.89%), Romania (5.71%) and Poland (4.63%).
