Ukraine increases electricity consumption by 6.2% in eight months

KYIV. Sept 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January-August 2021, taking into account in-process losses in networks, increased by 6.2% (by 5.872 billion kWh) compared to the same period in 2020, to 101.138 billion kWh, according to recent data from the Ministry of Energy.

According to the calculations of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, without taking into account technological losses, electricity consumption for the specified period increased by 7.3% (by 5.643 billion kWh), to 82.942 billion kWh.

The country’s industry, excluding technological losses, increased electricity consumption by 6.7% – up to 34.702 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgical industry consumed 19.315 billion kWh (more by 5.9% compared to January-August 2020), fuel industry – 2.178 billion kWh (more by 2.7%), machine building industry – 2.329 billion kWh (more by 14.9%), chemical and petrochemical – 2.958 billion kWh (more by 8.7%), food and processing – 2.786 billion kWh (more by 0.2%), construction materials – 1.732 billion kWh (more by 18.7%), others – 3.405 billion kWh (more by 7.5%).

In addition, agricultural enterprises consumed 2.303 billion kWh (less by 7.5%), transport – 4.035 billion kWh (more by 9.6%), construction – 708.7 million kWh (more by 17.7%).

The population of the country for the eight months of this year consumed 25.649 billion kWh (more by 6.4%), household consumers – 9.908 billion kWh (more by 7.7%), other non-industrial consumers – 5.636 billion kWh (more by 19.8%).

According to the results of the eight months, the share of industry in the total volume of electricity consumption decreased from 42.1% to 41.8%, and the share of the population – from 31.2% to 30.9%.

In August 2021, electricity consumption, taking into account technological losses, increased by 5.1% (by 576.3 million kWh) compared to the same month of 2020, to 11.85 billion kWh, excluding technological losses – by 8.5% (by 789.2 million kWh), to 10.050 billion kWh.
