Ukraine increases coal imports by 13.2% in eight months

KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine in January-August 2021 increased imports of coal and anthracite (foreign economic activity code 2701) by 13.2% (by 1.528 million tonnes) compared to the same period in 2020, to 13.060 million tonnes.

According to the State Customs Service, coal was imported for $1.326 billion, which is 8.7% more than in January-August 2020 ($1.220 billion).

Coal came from the Russian Federation for $816.078 million (the share in imports is 61.57%), the United States – for $299.022 million (22.56%), Kazakhstan – for $145.422 million (10.97%), other countries – for $65.007 million (4.9%).

Coal exports by Ukraine for the eight months of 2021 amounted to 897 tonnes for $133,000, including to Slovakia – for $108,000, Hungary – for $11,000, Bulgaria – for $7,000, other countries – for $7,000. For the same period of 2020, exports amounted to 1,954 tonnes for $148,000, including to Poland – for $141,000, Moldova – for $7,000.
