Ukraine hopes to include post-war reformatting of tax system in program with IMF – Finance Minister

KYIV. March 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A new International Monetary Fund (IMF) tax policy program will focus on improving tax administration and may reflect the post-war reformatting of the tax system to attract investment and business, Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko has said.

“Tax policy measures will be 90% related to improving tax administration. I would not say that there (in the program) there will be certain tough measures. Moreover, we want to lay a certain bridge for post-war recovery and the creation of a certain post-war configuration of tax reform,” he said during the national telethon on Wednesday night.

Marchenko said that such a possibility is now being discussed.

“I hope that the future program will reflect the possibility of reformatting the existing tax system to make it attractive for developing investments and attracting businesses. But in terms of administration, the measures can be quite serious, because there are many problems and many complaints about tax administration,” the Minister of Finance said.

He said that the IMF mission will work from March 8 to March 15 in Warsaw with representatives of Ukraine on the parameters of the potential future program.
