Ukraine hopes for Zelensky's taslk with Chinese leader Xi Jinping – Kuleba
MUNICH. Feb 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The possibility of holding a conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be one of the issues that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will discuss with Wang Yi, head of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on February 18.
“We really want President Zelensky to have a conversation with Xi Jinping. We will also talk about this with him tomorrow,” Kuleba told reporters at a briefing, answering a question about the upcoming meeting with Wang Yi.
According to the Ukrainian minister, the principle of the territorial integrity of the state is China’s fundamental interest in the international arena.
“And, in fact, the need to observe and protect this principle is the greatest motivating force for China – more than any other arguments of Ukraine, the United States or others. Therefore, I hope for a frank conversation,” the Foreign Minister said.
He said he had never met with representatives of the Central Committee of China, although Wang Yi knew him as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and had been in contact with him since the beginning of the war.
Kuleba also said there is already a candidate for the position of Ukraine’s ambassador to China, but “the procedure has not yet been launched.” The minister did not specify who he was talking about.
