Ukraine has more than 35,600 doses of vaccines with Sept 30 expiration date – Health Ministry

KYIV. Sept 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – There are currently 11,457,084 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from different manufacturers in Ukraine, of which 35,676 doses expire on September 30.

The Interfax-Ukraine agency was informed about it in the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Health specified that currently 6,998,206 doses of CoronaVac vaccine, 1,687,688 doses of Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine and 2,771,190 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are available at national, regional and local warehouses.

The expiry date on September 30, among others, expires for 1,640 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines and 34,036 doses of Pfizer vaccine. Some 1,604,591 doses of AstraZeneca and 5,772 Pfizer vaccines have expiry date of October 31, while 1,164,959 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 2,862 doses of Pfizer vaccine have expiration dates of November 30.

In addition, Pfizer vaccines will be valid until November 31 – 2,862 doses, December 31 – 767,722 doses, and another 877,296 doses – until January 31, 2022.

Available CoronaVac vaccines will be valid until June 15, 2022 – 159,600 doses, with an additional 8,838,606 doses available until April-August 2023.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that at present in Ukraine, an average of 107,000 inoculations are carried out per day, however, "there is already an increase in rates."

"Since the announcement of the ‘yellow’ level of epidemic danger, the number of first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has increased by almost 25%. This indicates an increase in demand for vaccination against COVID-19," the ministry said.

On weekdays, in particular, an average of 60,000-80,000 inoculations by the Pfizer vaccine, and about 25,000 inoculations by the AstraZeneca vaccine are carried out.

The ministry stressed that all measures are being taken to rationally use the available vaccine.

"This concerns the decision to import the vaccine into the territory of Ukraine, in accordance with the rate of vaccination, the availability of these drugs and their expiration dates. Also, to prevent spoilage, the vaccine is used with a short period before the expiration date," the Ministry of Health said.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health recalls that the department has decided to apply the minimum allowable interval between the inoculations of two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is permitted by the instruction – four weeks. This will protect people as quickly as possible and use the available vaccine faster and more efficiently.

The Ministry of Health also noted that the issue of revaccination is currently being studied in Ukraine by introducing an intensifying (booster) dose or choosing a model for repeating the course of vaccination.

"The available vaccine is maximally used to protect Ukrainians by conducting a basic full course of vaccination (inoculation of two doses)," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Health recalled that Ukraine has a powerful system of pharmacological supervision.

"A person who comes for vaccination, in no case will receive a vaccine with a violated terms or conditions of storage," the Ministry of Health emphasized.
