Ukraine harvests 25.3 mln tonnes of grain and leguminous crops this season – Ministry of Agrarian Policy
KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By August 26, Ukrainian farmers harvested 25.3 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops (up by 1.9 million tonnes for the week of August 19-26) from a total area of 6.6 million hectares (up by 500,000 hectares), the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food said on its website on Friday.
It is specified that the crop was harvested from 59% of the planned areas, while a week earlier this figure was 55%. In terms of crops, barley, peas and rapeseed are harvested from 99% of the area, wheat – from 98%, millet – from 9%, and buckwheat and sunflower – from 1%.
In general, 18.8 million tonnes of wheat (up by 1.4 million tonnes per week) from 4.6 million hectares (up by 0.3 million hectares), 5.5 million tonnes of barley (up by 0.2 million tonnes) from 1.6 million hectares (up by 0.1 million hectares), 246,100 tonnes of peas (up by 2,400 tonnes) from 108,800 hectares (up by 800 hectares), and 9,100 tonnes of millet (up by 1,400 tonnes) from 4,100 hectares (up by 900 hectares) were harvested. Sunflower harvesting began this week, 18,800 tonnes of it from 23,500 hectares, as well as buckwheat – 2,000 tonnes from 1,600 hectares were harvested.
In addition, by August 26, some 3.1 million tonnes of winter rapeseed were harvested in Ukraine from 1.085 million hectares (up by 50,000 hectares).
According to the ministry, the average yield in the current season was 38.4 centners per hectare, including wheat – 40.8 centners per hectare, barley – 34.6 centners per hectare, peas – 22.6 centners per hectare, millet – 21.6/ha, buckwheat – 13.2 c/ha, rapeseed – 28.4 c/ha, and sunflower – 8 c/ha. At the same time, the highest average yield of grain and leguminous crops was recorded in Khmelnytsky region – 62.3 c/ha.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy clarified that agricultural producers in Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad and Odesa regions have threshed over 2 million tonnes of grain. Agrarians of Vinnytsia, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Sumy, Khmelnytsky, Chernivtsi and Chernihiv regions have completed the harvest of early crops.
