Ukraine, Georgia's NATO membership process 'takes indecently long time' – Kuleba

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine is having a frank and friendly conversation with NATO that its integration into the Alliance cannot last indefinitely, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

"There is no understanding when Ukraine will receive the MAP. But this is frank conversation (and it is very friendly, by the way) that we have with NATO, that integration cannot be endless," Kuleba said live on his page in Facebook on Wednesday.

The minister also said that the process of Ukraine’s and Georgia’s membership in NATO "has taken an indecently long time."

"I think everyone needs to approach this issue more pragmatically and practically, because integration cannot be endless. Everything must have its certainty and clarity. Both NATO and Ukraine are convinced that they make each other stronger, so this is a completely natural process, and we will continue to implement the reforms, necessary for Euro-Atlantic integration," he said.

In addition, Kuleba said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg praised Ukraine’s reforms and thanked the President of Ukraine for his commitment to the course of reforms.

"But all of you and I also understand that there are countries in the Alliance that are not really interested in Ukrainian reforms, but are simply using this argument in order to curb Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration. And we must talk about it. We must not be afraid to speak frankly about those cases where the interests of Ukraine are deliberately and rudely neglected, where there are manipulations," the Foreign Minister said.
