Ukraine fully provided with food wheat – Agrarian Minister
KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food fully fulfilled the task of ensuring food security – growing bread in the amount necessary for stable consumption, export and processing, while the issue of its pricing is outside the competence and authority of the department.
The results of the broadcast of Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leschenko on Ukrainian Radio were reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
"We have record indicators for the yield of milling wheat. The information spread by media representatives that we will not have milling wheat is groundless. We have signed relevant memorandums with exporters, we clearly control the volume of exports – there is full understanding here," the minister said.
Leschenko stressed that the task of the ministry from the point of view of ensuring food security is to grow wheat in the amount necessary for stable consumption, export and processing, which this year was completed in full. As for pricing, this is not the competence of the department and it does not have the appropriate powers.
He clarified that the structure of the cost of bread includes a number of characteristics: energy resources, wages, etc.
"We in the ministry see two options for ways out to balance this issue. The first is to extend the 14% VAT rate to socially important goods of Ukraine. Today we have a 14% rate on grain, it needs to be extended to the end consumer. This is the best tool for balancing inflation in Ukraine, when the rate goes from 20% to 14%. As a ministry, we defend this position," Leschenko said.
Another way to balance the prices of bread, according to the head of the ministry, is the adoption of a law on internal trade, which expands the powers of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to control trade networks to balance them.
