Ukraine, EU agree to postpone creation of Group of Experts on trade and sustainable development until Q2 2022

KYIV. Oct 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine and the EU agreed to postpone the creation of the Group of Experts on trade and sustainable development in accordance with Article 301 of the Association Agreement until April-June 2022, the parties indicated in a joint statement by the Ukraine – EU Trade and Sustainable Development Sub-Committee.

"The Sub-Committee agreed to postpone the decision to establish a Group of Experts on trade and sustainable development in accordance with Article 301 until the second quarter of 2022 to add 15 members to it, after the necessary procedural steps have been taken by both parties," the Ministry of Economy said in a statement on its website on Friday.

Ukraine announced five candidates after one of the previous candidates ceased to meet the selection criteria, according to the statement.

In general, during the fifth meeting of the Ukraine – EU Trade and Sustainable Development Sub-Committee, the parties discussed trade and employment, forestry management and renewable energy via videoconference, the ministry said.

The Group of Experts shall consist of 15 members – five each from Ukraine and the EU, as well as five members who are not citizens of any of the parties to the Agreement. The main task of the Group is to study any matter under Chapter 13 "Trade and Sustainable Development" of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, if the matter has not been satisfactorily addressed through governmental consultations.
