Ukraine demanded, demanding and will demand recognition of Russia as a state-sponsor of terrorism – Kuleba
KYIV. Sept 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian authorities will continue to insist on the need to recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism, said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
"We demanded, are demanding and will demand recognition of Russia as a state-sponsor of terrorism. And the fact that the Biden administration is not ready to make this decision now does not mean that it can never be made. We will work to ensure that Russia is recognized for who it really is," Kuleba said on the air of the national telethon on Tuesday.
According to him, since February 24, Ukrainian diplomacy "has repeatedly, and not only in relations with the United States, gone through this process, when the partners first answered ‘no’, but then the decision was finally made."
"This also concerned the provision of certain weapons, the introduction of certain sanctions. Therefore, I am sure that work with America in this direction will continue," the minister stressed.
At the same time, he thanked the United States for everything they "have done and continue to do for Ukraine," and also noted President Biden’s leadership in the process of helping Kyiv.
"However, we will not back down on this particular issue and will continue to insist on our own, because this will really be the right decision," he summed up.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that U.S. President Joe Biden does not consider it a good idea to add Russia to the list of countries that sponsor terrorism, and this is his final word.
Currently, Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Syria have been declared as states-sponsors of terrorism in the United States.
