Ukraine cuts coal imports by 66.7% in Jan-Aug
KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In January-August 2022, Ukraine reduced the import of hard coal and anthracite (HS code 2701) by 66.7% (by 8.681 million tonnes) compared to the same period in 2021, to 4.379 million tonnes.
According to the State Customs Service, coal was imported for $1.05 billion, which is 20.8% less than in January-August 2021 ($1.326 billion).
Coal came from the Russian Federation for $420.589 million (pre-war supplies, the share in imports is 40.05%), the United States for $291.447 million (27.76%), Australia for $103.133 million (9.82%), other countries for $234.87 million (22.37%).
Export of coal by Ukraine for eight months of 2022 amounted to 523,863 tonnes for $166.667 million, including to Slovakia for $108.295 million, Poland for $35.028 million, Hungary for $20.779 million, other countries for $2.565 million. In January-August 2021, exports amounted to 897 tonnes for $0.133 million.
