Ukraine, Croatia sign declaration to support Ukraine's European prospects – Zelensky

KYIV. Dec 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine and Croatia have signed a joint declaration to support Ukraine’s European prospects, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

"It is important today to sign a joint declaration on support for Ukraine’s European prospects. Croatia is already the sixth state of the European Union with which Ukraine has signed such an important political document. We also highly appreciate the support of our Croatian partners in moving Ukraine towards membership in the Alliance [NATO]," Zelensky said at a joint press conference with Croatian Prime Ministers Andrej Plenković on Wednesday in Kyiv.

According to the presidential website, the document defines the priority areas of cooperation between Ukraine and Croatia within the Ukraine’s strategic course towards gaining full membership in the European Union, it notes the common interest of Ukraine and Croatia regarding security and stability in the region and Europe and the importance of observing the principle of inviolability internationally recognized borders.

The declaration confirms the significant progress made by Ukraine in the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, as well as identifies key areas for further reforms.

For his part, the Croatian Prime Minister said the declaration of Support for Ukraine’s European prospects has become a confirmation of what has been implemented in practice for many years.

"We support the European initiatives of Ukraine, we support the reform processes and believe that this is the best way to improve the quality of life of Ukrainians and adapt the legal system and the economic market," he said.

In addition, within the press conference for media representatives, it was noted that Croatia will transfer to Ukraine its experience in the reintegration of the occupied territories.

"We agreed with the Prime Minister of Croatia on an action plan for the working group to transfer Croatian experience on peaceful reintegration to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This document will be signed by us in Brussels on December 15," Zelensky said.

Special attention was also paid to deepening trade cooperation and diversifying energy supplies.

Zelensky also thanked the Croatian side for the initiative to open a tourist office in Ukraine and congratulated on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
