Ukraine 80% ready for heating season – Shmyhal

KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said that today Ukraine is 80% ready for the upcoming heating season.

"The heating season will start in Ukraine very soon. The most difficult one in the history. We have been preparing for it in summer and we continue to do this now. Our readiness is already more than 80%. A significant amount of coal has been accumulated, pumping of gas to the storage facilities continues," he said at a meeting of the government on Friday.

The government is reaching agreements with partners on additional gas supplies, has allocated UAH 1.4 billion on the preparations for emergencies, purchased around 1,500 mobile generators and dozens of back-up boilers, the PM said.

"An operational headquarters has been formed for quick response to any crises. First of all, the issue of cleaning up the aftermath of Russia’s attacks on our critical infrastructure. We have been preparing and we are preparing for all scenarios. We will do our best to ensure that Ukrainians will be provided with heating, power and water supply this winter," Shmyhal said.
