UK, Ukraine have no desire to be adversarial towards Russia but are concerned by Moscow's activity – defense ministers

KYIV. Nov 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – British Secretary of State for Defense Ben Wallace and Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov have said that their governments have no desire to be adversarial towards Russia but feel concerned by the alleged military build-up near the Ukrainian border, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry has reported.

"Our governments have no desire to be adversarial, or seek in any way to strategically encircle or undermine the Russian Federation. We are concerned by Russia’s military build-up and activity around the borders of Ukraine," Wallace and Reznikov said in a joint statement.

"Ukraine and the United Kingdom are strategic partners in security and defense," the statement said.

An Intergovernmental Framework Agreement was signed in London last week, continuing joint projects to develop the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Navy, as agreed in June, when the UK, Ukraine and a UK industry consortium signed an Implementation Memorandum with the aim of cooperation to enhance the naval capabilities of Ukraine.

"Today’s meeting is the next stage in bilateral cooperation for enhancing Ukraine’s defence capabilities and increasing interoperability. Ukraine’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity is indisputable. We are unwavering in that support and together we remain vigilant and united in the defence of our common values and freedoms," the statement reads.

According to their statement, the "United Kingdom stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Ukraine and will continue its long-standing determination to support them."
