UDP agrees with Romanian TTS on offshore transshipment of foodstuffs in port of Constanta

KYIV. Oct 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP) has entered into a framework agreement with TTS Group S.A (Romania) on the possibility of transshipment of Ukrainian foodstuffs at the anchorages of the port of Constanta (Romania) from UDP barges to sea vessels for further export to third countries.

According to UDP CEO Dmytro Moskalenko, the company is especially active with this country, having realized more than half of export shipments through its ports since the beginning of 2022.

"The first meeting was held with representatives of the Romanian TTS Group S.A. The partners confirmed the possibility of transshipment at the Constanta offshore site according to the barge-vessel scheme. UDP received the relevant price offers. The offshore transshipment will allow UDP to significantly speed up the turnover of the fleet, because waiting in line for unloading at the port terminal usually takes too much time," he wrote on Facebook.

Moskalenko also said that thanks to the agreement, UDP will be able to offer Ukrainian farmers or traders the entire turnkey export logistics chain – from transshipment of foodstuffs in the country’s river port to loading onto ships in Romania.

According to him, the new logistics model of UDP in cooperation with TTS allows it to successfully compete with direct shipments of sea vessels from Ukrainian Izmail, since the river ports of Ukraine cannot service large tonnage ships that can enter the port of Constanta.

Moskalenko said that TTS Group owns the largest river fleet on the Danube: it has almost 500 vessels with a total capacity of 800,000 tonnes. The group has its own terminals in Constanta and seven Danube river ports. It also owns eight floating cranes.
