U.S. producer of irrigation systems could establish production in Ukraine – Agrarian Ministry
KYIV. Nov 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The American manufacturer of irrigation equipment Valmont, Inc intends to manufacture and sell in Ukraine full cycle irrigation systems with a high level of production localization: from pumping stations to sprinklers.
The signing of a memorandum on cooperation in this industry between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and Valmont was announced on the ministry’s website.
"The company knows about the successful implementation of the land reform and the start of irrigation reform in Ukraine. It has ambitious plans to deploy its own production with a high level of localization in our country: it will be able to produce and sell in Ukraine full cycle irrigation systems – from pumping stations to the latest generation of sprinklers," Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leschenko said.
According to the ministry, Valmont’s capitalization exceeds $ 5 billion, and almost every second irrigation system in the world is their product.
The department clarified that, for its part, next year it will continue the program of compensation for 25% of the cost of domestic agricultural equipment to its manufacturers, and also scale up the state program for support of the commissioning of new reclamation lands for Ukrainian agrarians, provided that the new reclamation infrastructure is produced at Ukrainian factories.
As reported, large international agricultural companies Cargill and Lindsay in September 2021 confirmed their desire to assist in the implementation of irrigation reform in Ukraine, since they see this project as a long-term strategic perspective.
In April 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers called on the restoration of irrigation systems for agricultural land in the southern regions of the country by the end of this year.
The restoration of the reclamation industry has become a national project until 2024. In 2021, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy launches a pilot project to restore irrigation systems in Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia regions.
