Two residents of Kyiv to be tried for setting fire to car of Radio Liberty employee in 2020
KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Brovary District Prosecutor’s Office has sent an indictment to the court against two residents of Kyiv on the fact of arson of the car of the film crew of the Skhemy (Schemes) TV program and obstruction of the fulfillment of professional duties of a journalist (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 194, Part 3 of Article 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), the information policy department of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
The investigation found that in Brovary in August 2020, a group of persons, by prior agreement, set fire to the car of the driver of Radio Liberty, a member of a journalistic group that used this vehicle to carry out his legitimate professional activities. Being in the courtyard of a high-rise building, they threw an object into the car, from which it caught fire and was completely destroyed. There were no people in the car at the time of the fire.
As reported, in September 2021, the trial in the case of the arson of the editorial car of Radio Liberty was resumed after its closure by the court of first instance. The decision to resume the proceedings was made based on the results of consideration of appeals by Brovary District Prosecutor’s Office and the victim’s representative, who challenged the decision of the court of first instance.
The materials of criminal proceedings concerning another participant of the specified crime are already under consideration in Brovary City District Court.
