Turkey making great efforts to end war by protecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty once and for all – Erdogan
KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Turkey is making great efforts to ensure that the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine ends by protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine once and for all, and calls on international organizations and countries of the world to support Turkey’s peace initiatives, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
"The conflict is escalating, and we are making great efforts to end the war by protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine once and for all. And we would like to appeal to all international organizations and countries of the world to support Turkey’s peaceful initiatives to settle this dispute once and for all. We need a decent way out of this crisis, and this is possible only through a diplomatic solution that is rational, fair and applicable," Erdogan said, speaking at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
The leader pointed out that as a result of the great efforts that Turkey made together with the UN Secretary General, it was possible to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, finding a way to the rest of the world markets.
"The Istanbul Convention, which allowed this export, is still very important, and exports are gaining momentum over time. This important agreement, concluded jointly with the UN, is one of the greatest achievements of the UN in recent decades. I think that the international community has revived confidence in the UN as a result of the Istanbul Convention, because the Istanbul Convention proves once again that negotiations can yield results, especially on issues that are of vital importance to all parties," Erdogan stressed.
He drew attention to the fact that Turkey used a similar approach when it came to the Zaporizhia NPP.
"The Ukrainian conflict has crossed the threshold of the seventh month. And we think that the war will never have a triumph, and as a result of a fair peace process there will be no losers," Erdogan is sure.
