Turkey becomes leader in grain imports from Ukrainian seaports – media

KYIV. Aug 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Turkey has become the largest importer of Ukrainian agricultural products, following from the Black Sea seaports of Ukraine under the Istanbul grain agreements, for the period of August 1-15, its share amounted to 26% of the total traffic volume (146,400 tonnes).

In total, in the first half of August, 21 dry cargo ships with 563,000 tonnes of grain and other food products left the Ukrainian ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdenny, according to the website of the Turkish edition Anadolu.

"In accordance with the agreement signed with the mediation of Turkey and the UN to address the global food crisis and rising food prices, 26% of grain and other food products exported from Ukraine have been delivered to Turkey," the publication said.

The other largest importers of agricultural products from the ports of Ukraine during this period were Iran and South Korea, each accounting for 22% (123,800 tonnes), as well as China (8%, 45,000 tonnes), Ireland (6%, 33,700 tonnes), Italy (5%, 28,000 tonnes), Djibouti (4%, 22,500 tonnes), and Romania (2%, 10,600 tonnes).

As reported, on August 17, five ships entered the territorial waters of Ukraine at once to load Ukrainian agricultural products. The grain carriers Zelek Star, Kafkametler, Osean S and Great Arsenal moored in the port of Chornomorsk to load 56,100 tonnes of agricultural products, and the Zumrut Ana tanker will be waiting in the roadstead, its call is scheduled for August 18.
