Trip of 'intl observers' to Crimea in no way legitimizes illegal electoral process – MFA's spokesperson

KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The arrival of agents of Russian influence in the Crimean peninsula to observe the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation is their private initiative, this trip in no way legitimizes the illegal electoral process, said Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"We regard the arrival of agents of Russian influence in the Crimean peninsula as their private initiative. They represent no one but themselves. This trip in no way legitimizes the illegal electoral process," Nikolenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that Russia substitutes the wish for the reality, calling several marginal politicians "international observers" at the elections in Crimea.

"Foreign governments have clearly stated that they will not recognize the results of the Russian vote in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Moreover, according to our information, our partners warned their politicians against visiting the Crimean peninsula. There is no reason to question the consolidated international position on Crimea," Nikolenko stressed.

Earlier, Russian media reported that ex-deputy of the French parliament Michel Voisin, deputy of the French National Assembly Jerome Lambert, secretary of the Economic and Social Council of Serbia Dusan Petrovic arrived in Crimea as "international observers" at the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
