Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine must continue – candidate for Chancellor of Germany Scholz
BERLIN. Sept 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Olaf Scholz, a candidate for chancellor from the Social Democratic Party SPD, which won the parliamentary elections in Germany, believes that the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine should continue after the launch of Nord Stream 2.
"It is important that the guarantees associated with its use [the gas pipeline] are taken into account," Scholz told reporters in Berlin on Monday. According to him, this means that "Ukraine should remain a transit" country.
Thus, Scholz is in solidarity with the position of the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, repeatedly voiced earlier by Berlin.
