Timing of administering 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine missed by about 150,000 Ukrainians – Kuzin

KYIV. Nov 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The timing of the administering of the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine determined by the instructions was really missed by about 150,000 Ukrainians, the country’s chief sanitary doctor Ihor Kuzin has said.

In an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency, he noted that when assessing this indicator, one should take into account that Ukraine has quite flexible terms between the administration of the first and second dose.

"When we calculated the minimum possible intervals between the administration of two doses, it turned out that indeed about 600,000 Ukrainians had not yet received the second vaccination. But if we talk about those who really did not make the second dose within the time specified by the instructions, then there are about 150,000 of them," he said.

The fact that there are a number of establishments in the "orange" zones that allow the use of the so-called yellow certificates, which can be obtained after the first dose of the vaccine, may also deter citizens from receiving a second dose, Kuzin explains.

"People believe that they need a certificate not to protect themselves from the virus, but to use public catering, so they are in no hurry to get a second vaccination, believing that the region will not enter the ‘red’ zone," he said.
