The Netherlands donates UAH 22 mln worth of anti-COVID aid to Ukraine's Border Guard Service

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Kingdom of the Netherlands has handed over humanitarian aid to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine to combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection, the press service of the State Border Guard Service has said.

"The ceremony for the transfer of humanitarian aid took place today at the Central Clinical Hospital of the State Border Guard Service in Kyiv," it said on Tuesday.

In total, border guards received from the Kingdom of the Netherlands 1 million surgical masks, 100,000 isolation gowns, almost 50,000 medical glasses, as well as aprons and respirators of the FFP2/FFP3 type. The total cost of the aid is over UAH 22 million.

Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ukraine Jennes de Mol noted the long and fruitful cooperation with the Ukrainian border guard department, which has been going on for 10 years. He emphasized that real partners are those who, not in word, but in deed, come to the rescue in difficult times. Therefore, at a time when Ukraine, on the one hand, keeps the defense, on the other hand, is fighting the spread of a pandemic disease, the Netherlands decided to support the country’s border guard service department.

First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Nikiforenko noted that the received humanitarian aid would be distributed between departmental healthcare institutions, as well as bodies and units that directly guard the border and carry out registration of citizens at checkpoints. He stressed that from the very beginning of the pandemic, border guards were among the first to take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He also noted that at the border at checkpoints, border guards communicate daily with people arriving from different countries and the personnel of the department should be maximally protected, including from viral diseases, and thanks to the help of partners from the Netherlands in particular.
