Temporary truce unfavorable for Ukraine and Europe – Podoliak
KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The negotiation process with Russia to end the war is now unprofitable for both Ukraine and Europe, since any temporary truce will mean continued aggression by the Russian Federation in the future. This was stated by adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podoliak in an interview with the German publication Bild, the press service of the Office of the President reported.
"The negotiation process today would fix a temporary truce in a war that will not be completed. Accordingly, the Russian Federation will consider this a victory and will continue to claim to promote its expansionist policy. Therefore, a truce will only mean the next stage of the war after a certain time," he said.
Podoliak also said that if such an incomplete end of the war happens, many of our citizens would not risk returning to Ukraine, and investments would not come. "This will be a ‘growing gray area’ that will constantly put pressure on Europe. Europe will be forced to constantly invest large funds here to maintain this territory in a viable state. This is unprofitable for Europe in the medium and long term," the adviser to the head of the President’s Office said.
According to him, the negotiation process is unprofitable for Germany and other EU countries today, since this will provoke Russia to more daring behavior in economic, political and diplomatic terms.
Podoliak said that in Ukraine, due to the war, the quality of life is significantly fallen, and in Europe there will also be a certain deterioration. "But this is the price for such an intense war, which has not been since the World War II. And this war must be properly ended if you do not want to pay all the time," he said.
It will be possible to start talking about negotiations with the aggressor state only when the last hope of the Russian Federation collapses to put the squeeze on Ukraine by military means, the adviser to the head of the Office of the President is convinced. "Only after Russia realizes that it will no longer be able to wage war," he said.
