Taran: We look forward to consistent position of our friends in unblocking meetings of Ukraine-NATO Commission at defense ministers level, obtaining MAP
KYIV. Oct 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran, at a meeting with Chancellor of the Ministry of Defense of Estonia Kusti Salm noted that Ukraine expects to continue the consistent position of friends in unblocking the meetings of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of defense ministers and receiving the Membership Action Plan (MAP) in the Alliance.
"The political and diplomatic support of Ukraine by the Republic of Estonia, in particular for the strategic course of our state towards membership in the Euro-Atlantic structures, is extremely important for us. We look forward to the continuation of the consistent position of our friends in unblocking the meetings of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of membership in the Alliance," the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine quoted Taran as saying.
The parties discussed the Estonian experience in establishing the NATO Cyber Defense Center of Excellence in Tallinn and Ukraine’s plans to join its activities.
Taran also expressed gratitude to the Estonian side for assistance in the treatment of wounded Ukrainian servicemen and their rehabilitation in Estonia, as well as for the decision, together with Germany, to transfer a field hospital developed by an Estonian company to Ukraine.
In addition, the head of the Ukrainian defense department noted that the active phase of the Zapad-2021 strategic exercises was used by the Russian authorities for an additional build-up of troops along the state border with Russia and Belarus. Taran stressed that the training was completed, but not all military formations were redeployed back to their places of permanent deployment.
"The parties agreed to continue an intensive dialogue between the two countries in the field of defense cooperation. Salma confirmed the invitation of the Estonian side to Taran to pay a working visit to the Republic of Estonia at a time convenient for him," the ministry concluded.
