Synchronous operation of power systems of Ukraine and Europe technically possible – Ukrenergo study
KYIV. September 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Preliminary studies by NPC Ukrenergo have confirmed the technical feasibility of synchronous operation of the Ukrainian and European power systems, the Ministry of Energy has said.
"NPC Ukrenergo presented the preliminary results of studies conducted at the request of ENTSO-E regarding the static and dynamic resistance of the integration of the IPS of Ukraine with the power system of continental Europe, which confirmed the technical ability of the synchronous operation mode," the Ministry of Energy said on the website following the results of the meeting on preparation for synchronization with ENTSO-E.
According to the report, the approval of the final results of the study is expected by September 24 this year.
The Ministry of Energy also instructed Ukrenergo to accelerate the development of a program for conducting system tests in the IPS of Ukraine for operation in an isolated mode.
In addition, a complete list of generating equipment is being prepared, which will be used during operation in isolated mode. The Ministry of Energy said that this is necessary for generating companies to understand their role during such work and to prepare for it in a timely manner.
As reported, Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko eliminated any possibility of transferring the operation of the Ukrainian power system in an isolated mode for several days, the first stage of which is planned for the coming winter as part of the integration into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
According to decree of the President of Ukraine No. 452/2021, which approved the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of July 30, 2021 on measures to neutralize threats in the energy sector, the Cabinet of Ministers shall, by October 31, intensify work on Ukraine’s integration into the ENTSO-E, in accordance with the international obligations taken by the state.
