Switzerland preparing package of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Moldova for over $150 mln
KYIV. Feb 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Swiss government is seeking parliamentary approval to send CFA 140 million ($151 million) in further humanitarian aid to Ukraine and Moldova, Reuters has reported.
Most of the money – CFA 114 million ($123 million) – are provided for Ukraine, another CFA 26 million ($28 million) for Moldova. The aid envisaged includes shelters for schools, repairs to hospitals and energy infrastructure, or small loans to small agricultural businesses.
“In a humanitarian way, diplomatically, and with reconstruction in mind, we can support Ukraine. The needs on the ground are immense,” Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said.
Switzerland has already allocated CFA 1.3 billion ($1.4 billion) to support Ukraine, most of which to support Ukrainians who have fled to Switzerland. Around 75,000 Ukrainians have been granted refuge in Switzerland since the Russia’s full-scale invasion began on February 24 last year.
