Surge of coronavirus among young people recorded in Sloviansk, patients sent to neighboring cities – local authorities
KYIV. Oct 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An outbreak of coronavirus infection among young people has been recorded in Sloviansk (Donetsk region); everyone in need of hospitalization was sent to neighboring cities, the city’s military-civil administration reported.
"Up to eighty cases of coronavirus disease a day are now being recorded in Sloviansk," the press service of the city mayor’s office quoted deputy head of Sloviansk city military-civil administration Yuriy Pidlisny on Monday.
According to him, the peculiarity of the current wave is that the disease is found in children and young people, whereas last time it was mainly older people who got infected.
"Now several cases of the disease have been detected at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center on Korolenko Street. Therefore, it is on quarantine now," says the deputy head of the military-civil administration said.
The press service reported that there are also vaccinated people among the infected. They carry the disease easily. In this case, the vaccinated are found among the contact persons.
The mayor’s office said that on Monday the department for COVID patients did not work in the city, so everyone in need of hospitalization was taken to hospitals in Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, Bakhmut and Mykolaivka.
"If the number of patients in the region continues to grow, additional specialized departments will be deployed in other cities, including Sloviansk," Pidlisny said.
