Stefanchuk: Russia must answer for all its crimes against Ukrainian people

KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine and its partners must achieve in international legal institutions the recognition of Russia as guilty of aggression and crimes, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

"The end of this war is not only a victory on the battlefield, but also a victory in international legal institutions, where we must together achieve the recognition of the Russian Federation as guilty of all crimes within the International Criminal Court or the Special Tribunal. As well as compensation for all losses: what Russia has done in Ukraine should be paid not by European taxpayers, but by Russia, which is guilty of this aggression, of a terrible genocide on our land," Stefanchuk said at a meeting with a delegation of the Lithuanian government headed by with Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė on Saturday.

According to the website of the Ukrainian Parliament, Stefanchuk focused on further cooperation on the European integration and Euro-Atlantic tracks of Ukraine.

In turn, Šimonytė said that after the latest Russian missile attacks, the issue of security for Europe and the world has become more acute than ever. And here, according to her, the cooperation of all European governments and parliaments is important to strengthen assistance to Ukraine.

Šimonytė said the more Russia attacks Ukrainian territory and civilian infrastructure, the closer it gets to the western border of Ukraine, the more likely such incidents are on NATO territory. She said Lithuania continues to tell its friends and partners that NATO countries must strengthen their defense, but Ukraine also needs a strong defense, so the EU must help it even more.
