State Service for Special Communications authorized to be in charge of protection of critical infrastructure

KYIV. Oct 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at the final reading adopted the bill on amendments to certain laws of Ukraine on the formation and implementation of government policy in the sphere of protection of critical infrastructure.

As noted in the report in the Telegram channel of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, the document determines that the functions of the authorized body for the protection of the critical infrastructure of Ukraine will be performed by the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection. In particular, according to the text of the document, for the duration of martial law, as well as within 12 months after its termination or cancellation of the powers of the authorized body in the field of protection of critical infrastructure, provided for by the law on critical infrastructure, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection performs these duties.

"This is a natural step of the state towards strengthening the sustainability of the country’s critical infrastructure. The previous version of the legislation provided for the creation of a separate body responsible for these tasks. The implementation of the adopted changes will allow, without creating a new body, to ensure the formation and implementation of government policy in the field of critical infrastructure and save public funds," the authority said.

According to the head of the authority, Yuriy Schyhol, the provision of these functions by the State Special Communications Service enables the service to ensure systematic work in the field of protecting critical infrastructure facilities and critical information infrastructure objects located in these facilities.

The authority also said that after the adopted legislative changes, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection will ensure the creation of a complete chain of protection: the formation and filling of a register of critical information infrastructure facilities and subsequent daily work to strengthen the sustainability of such facilities and the state as a whole.
