Slovenia to give Ukraine 28 M-55 S tanks in exchange for 40 trucks from Germany – media
KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Slovenia will give Ukraine 28 M-55S tanks in exchange for which, under an agreement with Germany, it will receive 35 heavy trucks and five German-made water tankers.
"Slovenia sends 28 M-55 S tanks to Ukraine. Most likely, these are old M-55 S tanks, since there are newer ones. In exchange for the donation, we will receive 40 transport vehicles from Germany, these are 35 heavy 8×8 trucks and five heavy 8×8 water tanks to create a medium battalion group, as well as vehicles for protection and rescue," 24UR reported.
According to the publication, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob entered into an agreement "in the spirit of solidarity with the Ukrainian people opposing Russian aggression, and this circular exchange will also strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries."
It is also noted that the M-55 S tanks in storage of the Slovenian army are the modernization of the T-55 tank, developed at the end of World War II and serving as the main battle tank of the Soviet Union. Yugoslavia converted these tanks and named them the M-55.
