Shmyhal: Govt projects UAH 2 bln in 2022 state budget for aircraft industry

KYIV. Oct 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine must revive aircraft manufacturing so that aircraft manufacturing enterprises can work more for the domestic market, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.

"Last year [2020], we updated the strategy for the revival of aircraft construction in Ukraine. In the draft budget that the government submitted for next year, UAH 2 billion is projected for the aircraft industry. This includes research, new developments, and aircraft modernization," the press service of the state concern Ukroboronprom said, citing Shmyhal.

As noted, the Prime Minister on Friday, October 29, within the framework of a working trip, visited Volyn and got acquainted with the activities of the state-owned enterprise Lutsk Repair Plant Motor, which is part of Ukroboronprom. This plant provides the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with repaired engines for a number of combat aircraft. And it is a leader among Ukrainian enterprises for the repair of aircraft engines of the third and fourth generations.

"The plant’s products compete on equal terms with the best factories in the world. This is a good example when the defense industry is driving the economic development of the country," Shmyhal said.

It is also noted that the plant employs more than 1,000 full-time workers with an average salary of UAH 18,500. The production base was updated by about 50%, and in 2021 a new American machine and Swiss, German equipment were purchased.

"The enterprise, despite its profitability, is not loaded with orders at full capacity. This is confirmed by the production characteristics. This year, Motor performed overhaul and delivered 18 aircraft engines to a domestic customer. At present, it is working on a foreign order. At the same time, the plant is ready to additionally take eight aircraft engines of RD-33 and AL-31F types for repairs," Yuriy Husev, General Director of Ukroboronprom, said.

Also Shmyhal was presented the progress of the state defense industry reform and further steps to transform it.
